On the state’s claim portal you choose the heir or estate representative option. It covers the sole rightful heir of the deceased owner when there is no estate or the property is payable on death, and the legal representative of the deceased owner’s estate.
What you will typically need
- The claim form the Unclaimed Property Office sends after you start your claim. It lists the exact documents your claim needs
- A copy of a current driver’s license or state ID
- Documentation showing the property belonged to the deceased owner
- Documentation showing you are the rightful heir or personal representative entitled to the property
- A notarized signature from the heir or owner

What it costs
Free. The Treasurer’s Office says there is no charge to the owner for recovering funds directly through it. Any finder contract in Colorado must state that you can file directly with the state at no fee.
